Exhibitor Information
The Heart of Virginia Alpaca Show will be conducted under the current rules in the AOA Show Rules Handbook. All alpacas entered in the halter classes must be in full fleece. Halter judging will be 50/50 criteria.

Stalling: Maximum of 4 alpacas per stall.
Entry Fees
• Halter Entry fee per alpaca is $56. Walking Fleece Entry fee per alpaca is $56.
• Stalls $125 each (limit 4 animals to a stall). Tack stalls: $125 each.
Entry Deadline
All class entries must be made by the entry deadline of February 20th, 2024. No additions will be accepted at the show. Only Production Classes may be added at the show.
Show Health Requirements:
All alpacas attending the show, even those not competing, must be at least 6 months of age, ARI registered, micro-chipped and have PRINTED health papers issued within 30 days of the last day of the show. The alpaca’s ARI number, name, and microchip number must be listed on the health papers. All alpacas coming from blue tongue and tuberculosis FREE states will only be required to have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). Please consult your vet as to the status of your state or have them contact the Virginia State Vet directly with questions. BVD PCR (or VI prior to 1/1/2010) negative test for all alpacas will be required for entry on to the Virginia Horse Center grounds. You must have test results included on your health papers.
ARRIVAL
All alpacas entered in halter and walking fleece classes and companions must arrive Friday, March 8, 2024. No alpacas may be stalled in their trailers. All alpacas entered in the show must be stalled on the grounds of the Virginia Horse Center in the East Complex after check-in. We understand that you may be driving after work, if you are going to be later than 7 p.m. please call us at 540-230-5775. to let us know you are still coming and your estimated time of arrival. Be safe!
Alpaca Classes
• There must be a minimum of 8 huacaya entries, or 6 suri entries, per gender per color group for a Color Champion to be awarded. Classes may be combined and/or further split after all entries are received.
• Alpaca Exhibitor rule applies: No breeder may enter more than three alpacas per breed per color designation per age division per gender.
• All halter entries must be in full fleece and the last shearing date, if applicable, must be provided.
Production Classes
Entries in the Get of Sire or Produce of Dam are made in the name of the Sire/Dam. A copy of the Sire/Dam ARI certificate must be provided along with the names of the alpacas showing in the class and the name(s) of their owners. Sire/Dam is not required to attend event. All alpacas entered in group classes must be eligible and entered in their respective halter class.
Show Vet and EMT
Both a veterinarian and an EMT will be available throughout the show for the safety of you and your animals. Vet charges must be negotiated between the vet and exhibitor.
Show Registration
Please go to the online registration system: Alpacareg.com to register for the show. www.alpacareg.com. Choose the Heart of Virginia show in the drop down list and complete the registration.
Refunds
For reasons beyond anyone's control if the show cannot be held on the scheduled weekend it will be rescheduled. The show cannot issue refunds due to weather conditions or personal problems or situations that are beyond our control. Expenses for this event begin months prior to your registration, this no frills event runs only through the support of breeders like you!
Medical Waste
ALL medical waste (needles, syringes, etc.) must be discarded in the appropriate containers located in each barn. DO NOT discard medical waste in stalls, manure pits, garbage cans or on the grounds.
Bio-Security
The Virginia Horse Center is one of the most bio-secure facilities you will occupy throughout your show calendar, as the stalling restricts animal contact with neighboring stalls. Please use common sense and courtesy when walking your animals around common areas. Stay in the barn with your alpacas unless you are leaving the show. Keep your alpacas away from any other events on the grounds of the VHC. Avoid any nose to nose or any other physical contact either human or alpaca to alpaca. What may be cute could be a problem for your alpaca and farm later.
Stalling
Stalls will be assigned first-come first served based on receipt of payment. Sponsors will receive preferred stalling. You are welcome to decorate or hang banners on the stall doors. Panels extending from your stalls will not be permitted in front of interior stalls. The stalls are 12’ x 10’ stationary horse stalls. Three sides are solid and roughly 8’ high. The front is an open metal grid with sliding doors. The floors are dirt and electricity is available to each stall. Please bring a broom to sweep out your stalls before bringing your alpacas into them. Fans are encouraged and electricity is provided for each stall. Bring electrical cords for your fans. Maximum 4 alpacas per stall.
Bedding - Bedding is required. Mats, carpeting, shavings, kenaf pellets, cardboard bedding and straw are acceptable. Sod, sand, sawdust and newspaper are not permitted. Straw, shavings and cardboard bedding may be available for purchase. Please contact the Horse Center prior to arrival for pricing and availability.
Fees: All stalls are $125. Maximum capacity for any stall is five (5) animals. Farms housing more than five animals per stall will be charged an additional $125 for each stall violating occupancy rules.
Farm Displays - You will be allowed 3 feet out from the stalls for display purposes or tack. Farm displays are encouraged. Limited display space in the vending area is a available for $125 for 10x10. (Ideal for those who wish to participate without bringing animals.) No extra stall panels are allowed.
Tack Stalls - Tack stalls are available. Cost $125. Due to limited available stalling, Tack stalls will be available AFTER all farms have registered for stalling their alpacas for the show. Note: If you place your items in an empty stall next to you and have not requested a Tack Stall you will be asked to either move your items or pay for a Tack Stall. All stalls that are being used for storage or stalling are charged to the show by the Virginia Horse Center. It is not a problem to add a Tack Stall when you get to the show or create a neighborhood tack area with your fellow breeders. But do know there is a fee for doing so and it will need to be paid on Friday, March 11th.
Manure - All manure and used bedding from stalls or trailers must be placed in the designated areas. DO NOT discard manure in garbage cans. Stalls do not need to be cleaned before leaving.
Pets
NO PETS IN THE BARN. All pets must be kept on a maximum 6’ leash at all times and are the owner’s responsibility. This is a county ordinance. Failure to comply will result in notifying Animal Control. No pets are allowed in the barns, coliseum, arena or in any office at any time.
Camper Hookup
The VA Horse Center has 90 hook-up sites. Contact the Horse Center directly with questions concerning a camper hook-ups.
Arrivals/Departures/Stayovers
You may arrive Friday, March 8 AFTER 1 p.m. and before 8 p.m.. There shall be no arrivals between the hours of midnight and 7:00 am. If you need to arrive early, depart late, or stayover Sunday night contact the VA Horse Center Barn Office to make arrangements. Additional fees may apply.
Security
There will be security guards on duty throughout the show. Please be sure to lock your vehicles and secure your valuables. The Heart of Virginia Alpaca Show/Dominion Alpaca Show is not responsible for damages or loss of any kind.

Show management reserves the right to disqualify and/or remove any exhibitor who behaves in a manner deemed improper, unethical, dishonest, unsportsmanlike or intemperate. Including but not limited to mistreatment of animals, or any comment or remark made in connection with the show considered offensive and/or made with the intent to influence or cast aspersions on the character or integrity of the judging, show management, show volunteers, visitors, sponsors or other exhibitors. If you are going to be ugly, stay home.
